Abstract

In the middle 1830s, the boroganos seated in Salinas Grandes suffered a double process. On one hand, an internal division and, on the other hand, a fusion with the so called “ranqueles” that didn’t produce the arise of a new identity group. The impossibility to crystallize these new relations in the creation of a new group had two diferents causes: the constant pressure of the comandante general de campaña Juan Manuel de Rosas to avoid it and the conflicts around the power that arose within the plural borogano leadership. This struggle started when one of the main caciques tried to raise in the power taking advantage of a more direct contact with the state power. This strategy was not accepted by the rest of the group and caused a deep crisis inside it.
