La merced de la isla de Cozumel al Almirante de Flandes por parte del rey don Carlos: las gobernaciones de Cuba y de Yucatán en 1518

La merced hecha por el Rey don Carlos al Almirante de Flandes, Laurent Gorrevod, de la conquista y gobernación de México en 1518, constituye uno de los episodios más interesantes y más ilustrativos de cuáles eran los intereses de la camarilla flamenco-borgoñona en la Corte de España. Apenas teníamos una fuente exclusiva al respecto, el testimonio de fray Bartolomé de las Casas. Al haber encontrado en el Archivo General de Simancas la documentación principal estamos en condiciones de aproximarnos a la dicha concesión con más seguridad. Hemos querido ofrecer el espectro de posibilidades e intereses que existían en pugna y que clarifican algunas lagunas historiográficas sobre la conquista mexicana.
