Alliance for Progress and Armies of Chile and Venezuela in the Cold War (1961-1970)

This paper analyzes the views on the Alliance for Progress in the Chilean and Venezuelan Armies, through their military magazines, in the sixties (1961-1970) during the context of the Cold War. Chilean and Venezuelan military magazines collected different articles about the ideas of national development, associated with the Alliance, and the contributions of the armed institutions, especially in technical training during military service and the construction of public works. Methodologically, the historical study is based on original documents from Chilean, Venezuelan and U.S. archives. In sum, military publications demonstrate the interest of the Chilean and Venezuelan military in collaborating in development plans inspired by the Alliance for Progress through their own programs and civic action tasks.
